As the pilot took evasive action, the mid-upper gunner got in 100 rounds and the fighter broke away. Though the whole of the starboard side of the aircraft was shot up, and the outer engine, starboard wheel and turret hydraulics were damaged, the Lancaster went on and bombed its target and then got safely home.
