Widely recognised as the first National Park in the World, Yellowstone extends from parts of Wyoming into Montana and Idaho. This area is known for its wildlife, grand scenic vistas and its many geothermal features. It is one of the natural wonders of the world. Thermophilic (heat loving) algae like this are examples of biological extremophiles; these are scientifically important, and demonstrate life's ability to emerge and prosper in the most inhospitable places. Their ubiquity suggest that life may even exist on other planets.
