African sacred ibis (Threskiornis aethiopicus) at the lake shore with elephant dung, Lake Ndutu, Tanzania

A heavy rainfall and flash flood led to a rapid rise in the water levels of Lake Ndutu and the formation of a river where there normally is none. This occurred during the season of the great migration leading to some spectacular shots of the herds and their predators in an around the flooded area. African sacred ibis (Threskiornis aethiopicus) at the lake shore standing near some elephant dung, Lake Ndutu, Tanzania. These birds were venerated and often mummified by Ancient Egyptians as a symbol of the god Thoth, who was often depicted as a man with the head of an ibis. Troth had many roles in Egyptian mythology, including being the inventor of almost everything.
