Thesehopes for tlie most part proved futile, for notwithstanding a considerable dropin such mining supplies as steel, explosives, and cjanide, these did not comeback to pre-war prices, while foodstuffs and clothing continued soaring. The general labour unrest which was noticeable throughout Canada, as inmost other countries, showed itself in the mining camps of Xorthern Ontario, andthe climax was capped in Kirkland Lake and Cobalt by strikes.
