GPM rainfall satellite. Illustration of the core observatory satellite of the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) joint NASA-JAXA mission in Earth orbit (launched 2014). Its instruments are the Dual-Frequency Precipitation Radar (DPR) and the GPM Microwave Imager (GMI). Five other satellites, part of the GPM weather satellite constellation, are in the background. From left to right: the Suomi NPP (National Polar-orbiting Partnership) satellite, a MetOp satellite (a European polar-orbiting weather satellite), a GCOM (Global Change Observation Mission) satellite, a JPSS (Joint Polar Satellite System) satellite, and a DMSP (Defense Meteorological Satellite Program) satellite.
