Such is the record of an institution whosefounding was directly inspired by the actionof the General Assembly in creating IheBoard of Aid for Colleges and stands as a monument to the wisdom ofthat action. When the late Dr. J. and his coadjutors in 1884 deter-mined to establish this academy, it was withthe firm reliance that, after exhaustingevery reasonable resource among the localfriends and supporters of the institution,the Board of Aid would supplement theirefforts with such financial assistance asmight be necessary.
