The water below is the new deep. The old commercial lock was partly "converted" by a shipyard "to covered dry dock. The Koopervaarschutsluis was put into use on 8 May 1985. Fort Oostoever was laid out in 1791-1792 under the name 'Fort Dugommier' and was meant against an attack from the south at the yard and workshop of the navy. The fort was converted into the Fort Oostoever in 1833-1835. Together with the Fort Westoever, it was also called 'Fort to the Noord-Hollandskanaal'.
