Famous Russian poets Mikhail Lermontov (left) and Alexander Pushkin (in the middle) and famous Russian writer Nikolay Gogol are shown in this relief. The figures are the part of a huge bas-relief 'The Artists of Russia' which is the work of sculptor Mikhail Mikeshin himself. The Monument to the Millennium of Russia was created by sculptor Mikhail Mikeshin in 1864 and erected in Novgorod Kremlin, on the place were according the legend the mythological Varangian prince Rurik (also known as Riurik) took the power over the Russian tribes in 864. Rurik was the first ruler of Kievan Rus and the founder of the Rurik Dynasty.
