Berlin. New Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. New octagonal church by architect Egon Eiermann built 1959-1961 has a concrete & steel honeycomb framework with stained glass inlays giving a rich blue light. The stained glass inlays were designed by Gabriel Loire and the Tomak Christ figure above the altar is by Karl Hemmeter. The silver gilt cross on the altar was designed by Peter Tauchnitz using 37 rock crystals. The 5000 pipe organ in the gallery was built by Schuke. The hexagonal tower is topped with a pole carrying a gilded sphere and cross and the belfry has six bronze bells cast from French cannons
