Toward Point Lighthouse at the southern extremity of the Cowal Peninsula 6 miles from Dunoon and on the River Clyde
Toward Point Lighthouse was completed in 1812 and built by Robert Stevenson (1772–1850) for the Cumbrae Lighthouse Trust. It is one of 18 Scottish lighthouses built by Robert Stevenson. There are also other buildings including lighthouse keepers cottages. Toward Point is on the Cowal Peninsula and is the south-west extreme point of the Highland Boundary Fault as it crosses the Scottish mainland. Today the buildings are a private home and not open to the public. Robert Louis Stevenson is the grandson of Robert Stevenson.
