The 40 metre long trunk of a fallen tree in the Venezuelan rainforest. Tropical rainforests are evergreen, and the climate is warm and moist most of the time. This allows many plants and trees to grow to immense heights; some trees grow up to 100 metres high. Rainforest trees, unlike those of seasonal climates, cannot be aged by counting wood rings in the cut trunk.
