The formation of the loopshould be thoroughly understood, and is described as follows: Asthe needles advance on the rise cams, the loops in the hooks openthe latches, slipping over them into the throats, and the cylinderneedles, on striking the stitch cams, take the thread from the threadguide. On drawing the needles back, the loops in the throats slidingunder the latches, close them, thereby holding the thread in thehooks, and pass over them, clearing the needles and casting offonto the thread held in the hooks, in this way forming the new Fig. 53.
