ATLANTIC OCEAN (March 20, 2021) A F-35B short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) variant of the Lightning II aircraft sits on the aft section of the Italian aircraft carrier ITS Cavour (CVH 550) as the Ford-class aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) passes in the Atlantic Ocean March 20, 2021. The fifth generation fighter is aboard Cavour for sea trials as part of the Italian Navy’s Ready for Operations (RFO) campaign for its flagship.
