Early education in the UAE was provided by religious men known as ‘Al-Muttawa’ who taught in the form of ‘Katatib’ in the privacy of their own homes. This form of education was limited to reading and following the religious teachings of the Holy Koran, writing, arithmetic and Arabic calligraphy.
