The size and magnificence of Asshur-izir-pals build-ings, the artistic excellence of their ornamentation, the pompand splendor which they set before us as familiar to the kingwho raised them, the skill in various useful arts which theydisplay or imply, have excited the admiration of Europe,\vhich has seen with astonishment that many of its inventions.
