The Yang Ming Transportation Corporation was established in 1982 and its shares listed on the Taiwan stock exchange in 1992. it currently operates 84 container vessels. The YM Earth, built in 2003, is registered in Panama City. It has a 1620 TEU, which is a measure of the number of standard 20 foot (6 metre) containers (or an equivalent number of larger containers) it can carry. Hong Kong was the world's busiest container port 1987-89, 1992-97 and 1999-2004. It is a hub-port serving the South-East and East Asia Region, being the largest container port serving Southern China. It currently has nine container terminals in the deep waters of Victoria Harbour.
