In 1915 several types of airplane sets, ranging from one-quarter toone-half K. W. were tried out and used in service. The apparatus ismounted on the fusilage of the airplane, in front of the observer, in orderto be easily operated. A small generator, propelled by a wind-driven fan,is used as the source of power. A counterpoise antenna is used, using atrailing wire. The weight of the complete set is approximately 100 transmitting range is roughly 75 miles. 170 MANUAL OF RADIO TELEGRAPHY AND Fig. 97.
