Visitors on a day out, taking a stroll towards the 1550-built Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island in Northumberland, Britain The small tidal island is only accessible from the mainland at low tide using a causeway at certain times of the day. Holy Island is the birthplace of Christianity bought by Saint Aiden in 635AD in Angelo-Saxon times. From here the Christian message spread around the world. Saint Aiden founded the monastery and Saint Cuthbert, founder of Lindisfarne Priory, is still a place of pilgrimage today.
