McKINLEY. George C. McKinley, a pioneer of Solano County,but who has been living in Tulare County for someyears past, died at his home near Visalia, in 1896, ofBrights disease. The body was interred at Dixon,where the funeral services were held in the BaptistChurch, under the auspices of Silveyville LodgeF. & A. M., of which he was a member. George was born in Madison County, Illinois, July2, 1832. In 1840 he moved with his parents toMissouri and there commenced his studies, which hefinished in Gonzales County, Texas, whither he went. 549-MRS. OLIVE STOCKETT. BIOGRAPHICAL. 369 in 1845. In 1852 he emigrated to Los AngelesCounty, California, along with his father and mother,but as there was much trouble in that district inrespect to land titles, at the end of seven monthsthey left for Sacramento. At Sacramento he wasemployed in the nursery and vegetable garden ofPaul Hamilton, where he continued for three 1855 Mr. McKinley made another trip to thesouthern counties of the State in quest of land, butfinding the former stumbling block still prevailing heremained but a short time and then returned to Sac-ramento, from whence he made for Lynchburg, nearGroville, and for two months pursued mining, andfinally returned to Sacramento. On October 6, 1856,he and his father settled on the knoll south of Dixon,where the cemetery is now located.
