Onslaught of Magyars
The Magyars are said to have originated in Russia. Around 800, Maygar soldiers joined with Turkish forces. Some 36 years later, other Magyars joined with the Bulgars. In the decades that followed, Magyar troops took control of large areas of southern Russia, raiding settlements and taking slaves and booty wherever they went. This late 1800s illustration shows Magyars on one of their raids.
