Dunlap in his biography of the artist speaksof the full-length of La Fayette which occupied his timefor some months in New York (1825). Tuckerman statesthat he had received a public commission to paint a portraitof La Fayette then on a visit to this canvas: H. 48 inches; W. 33^ inches.
