THE WOMANS BOARD OF FOREIGN MISSIONS CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. Early in 1880 a letter was received by Rev. W. J. Darby, ofEvansville, Ind., from Rev. A. D. Hail, a missionary of the Cumber-land Presbyterian Church, at Osaka, Japan, urging that steps betaken at the next meeting of the general assembly, to convene inEvansville, May, 1880, to enlist the women of the church moreactively in Foreign Missions. The letter also contained a strongappeal to Christian women in behalf of the women and children ofJapan. Mr. Darby presented the matter to the women of his congrega-tion, who readily expressed their desire to do all they could to fur-ther such a movement, and a committee was appointed to consultwith the Board of Missions.
