Cirencester, Gloucestershire, UK. 3rd October, 2015. Rules_Emissions inside and outside motor vehicles. From the 1st October 2015 it will be illegal to smoke in a private vehicle when there are children present. This is new legislation to protect children and young people from the dangers of second-hand smoke (SHS). The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said that VW had installed illegal software to cheat emission tests, allowing its used diesel cars to produce traffic fumes up to 40 times more pollution than allowed.

Diesel exhaust is the gaseous exhaust produced by a diesel type of internal combustion engine, plus any contained particulates. Its composition may vary with the fuel type or rate of consumption, or speed of engine operation (, idling or at speed or under load), and whether the engine is in an on-road vehicle, farm vehicle, locomotive, marine vessel, or stationary generator or other application.[1] Diesel exhaust is a Group 1 carcinogen, which causes lung cancer and has a positive association with bladder cancer. It contains several substances that are also listed individually as human carcinogens by the IARC.
