Capitol Cinema,Thielalle 36. Historic movie theatre and residence of German film pioneer & director, Carl Froelich in his role as President of the Nazi Reichsfilmkammer. Carl Froelich (1875-1953), film director & producer who made 77 films between 1912 and 1951. He became a member of the National Socialist Party in 1933 and became director of the Gesamtverbandes der Filmherstellung und Filmverwertung (Union of Film Manufacture and Film Evaluation). He was awarded a film professorship by Goebbels in 1937 and in 1939 was appointed president of the Reichsfilmkammer, a section of a National Socialist trade organisation that and controlled access to artistic professions. Froelich was born and died in Berlin. From1939 he lived in the designated home of the President of the Reichsfilmkammer at 36 Thielallee which he modified to include a screening room. A bomb destroyed part of the house in 1945 and during reconstruction the screening room was enlarged and became a public cinema. Gerhard Klein took over the cinema in the mid 1950s where he hosted a literary forum supported by famous actors.
