Orford Ness, Suffolk UK. 14th October, 2011. The Atomic Weapons Research Establishment (AWRE) at Orford Ness in Suffolk, England. It was used to test ordinance from WWI through to the Cold War. The pagoda's were designed to test Britain's first atomic bomb, the Blue Danube. The buildings had concrete roofs that were covered with sand and stones that were designed to collapse if an explosion took place, covering the main blast.
