An atlas of clinical microscopy . o endin chronic disease. The immediate danger consists in the retention of certain con-stituents of the m-ine, followed by acute uraemia. The quantity ofurine falls to a few hundred cubic centimetres in twenty-fourhours; death results quickly when complete suppression insufiicient excretion of water causes dropsy, which rarely isabsent. In certain cases we find in the activity of the kidneys aguide as to the degree of danger. The possibility of ursemic com-plication is strong as long as the quantity of urine secreted isbelow normal. Convalescence is always ushered in by an abnormal increasein urinary secretion. The diagnosis must, first of all, be based on the etiology. If, after one of the above-named causes, albuminuria appears, the urine contains blood, and hydrops follows, then the diagnosis iscertain. The urine itself is mostly turbid, often brown or of thecolor of meat-juice. The specific gravity depends on the quantityof urine, and is, therefore, varying. I PLATE 37. Mexger Utk.
