River Cam in Cambridge blocked with punts as people watch the Trinity College May Ball firework display

River Cam in Cambridge blocked with punts as people watch the Trinity College May Ball firework display on Monday evening June 15th. More than 2000 people blocked the River Cam in Cambridge as they watched the spectacular Trinity May Ball fireworks display from a flotilla of 100 punts last night (Mon). They huddled under blankets on the historic Backs to watch the amazing set of fireworks at the start of the prestigious ball, for which tickets cost a staggering £450 a couple. The rich Cambridge University students watched the display from the college grounds, before partying throughout the night at the lavish end-of-exam celebrations. Some then continued overnight with drunken punt rides on the River Cam and a champagne breakfast in the college gardens. The sold-out ball is the largest event of the Cambridge student social calendar and some students queued for three hours to get into the party yesterday evening. Guests were treated to a lavish five-course meal served in Trinity Great Hall, then students could tuck in to oysters, a hog roast and a chocolate fountain, while drinks were served from a floating punt on the river.
