Sea gulls eat elephant seal afterbirth
The elephant seal (Mirounga angustirostris) spends most of its life in the open ocean. Twice a year, they return to the Piedras Blancas rookery near San Simeon, California for birthing, breeding, grooming, and rest. In this photo, sea gulls are ingesting elephant seal afterbirth.
