Foreign body in eye. Small foreign body (centre) seen on the cornea of a 60 year old woman while she is looking down during an eye examination. The cornea is the clear, dome-shaped surface that covers the front of the eye. Foreign bodies in the eye may lead to corneal abrasions which cause severe pain, an abnormal sensitivity to bright light and an increased production of tears. The foreign body may need to be removed under local anaesthesia if deeply embedded in the cornea.
