We see that this name, alsofound on many other monuments, is strictlythe same with that of Scsos-chis (pronounc-ed Sesonchis) preserved by IMnnclho, anddiffers from it only by the addition of aGreek termination. But if one has the slight-est notion of the particular genius of theShemilish liingnages, which, adhering ovilyto the skeletons of words, i. e. the conso-nants, neglect the vowels, as least impor-tant, he will then bestrnrkwiih the analogyof the Egyptian name, Shsh,ik,\ot\\M of the Heb. written Sli/.Av (Shishak or Sheshok).
