Following the recent forecasts on potential flooding on the Red River of the North and Mississippi River and its tributaries, staff at Locks and Dams 3 and 9 prepare sandbags to protect areas around the lock. Next week's efforts will focus on filling sandbags on the dike. This will protect vulnerable areas on the embankment as high winds can generate waves that can cause erosion. We are all hoping the water doesn’t get that high, but we still need to prepare for if it does.”
