Cliff Palace multi-storey Anasazi cliff dwelling, Mesa Verde, Colorado: view SE of area around circular tower showing terraces, kivas and apartment blocks. Cliff Palace contains 217 rooms & 23 kivas (circular ceremonial chambers); it was home to 200-250 people in the years c AD1200-1300. The structures were well built of shaped sandstone blocks jointed with mud and water mortar and coated with a thin layer of mud plaster. There are storage rooms on an upper ledge, refuse was dumped into the canyon and at the back of the cave. Situated on Chapin Mesa on the SE loop (Cliff Palace Loop) of Ruins Road.
