To prepare the hills, remove the soil to the depth of 6 or 7inches,for at least 2^ feet square; at the bottom of each hill place about 3 inches of coarse barn-yard manure, then cover with the soil. Where the soil is light and sandy, it should be packed by treading; a hea\'y soil will pack iLseif. In the center of the hill put a shovelful ot fine com- post, cover it lightly, and plant the seed only one inch deep. In light soils the hills may be nearly' level, but in heaN-y soils they should be higher. When the young plants appear, loosen up, and pull the soil up around the plants as high as the leaves. Use the cultivator freely, bat not too near the hill; near the hill, care- fully use the hoe. and around the plant use the hands only. When all danger from bugs is over
