Tesla at a formal dinner, 1910. Serb-US physicist and electrical engineer Nikola Tesla (1856-1943), seated at lower right (head resting on hand), at a dinner held at the Sherry's restaurant in New York, USA, on 21 February 1910. The inscription states that the dinner was held in honour of the election of US financier Henry Clews (1834-1923) as President of the American Civic Alliance. Clews is at lower centre, seated next to Tesla. Tesla was educated at Graz and Prague, but in 1884 he emigrated to the USA. His research led to key advances in areas such as alternating current power generation and transmission. A type of transformer is named for him (the Tesla Coil), as is the SI unit of magnetic flux density.
