Bluebells
This carpet of blubells is at Danebridge on the Staffordshire - Cheshire border. The River Dane here is crossed by a substantial bridge. The Common Bluebell (Hyacinhoides non-scripta) is a spring-flowering bulbous perennial plant. Native to the British Isles and northern Europe. It flowers in April and May. The stems are 10-30 cm long and bend over at the top. The lavender-blue flowers are pendulous, bell-shaped and slightly fragrant. The anthers are yellowish-white. Since 1981 it has been a protected species. Landowners are prohibited from removing bluebells on their land for sale.
