We show herewith a corrugated copper gasket that is very suc-cessfully used in place of rubber or other destructible materials sogenerally employed for packing. It consists of thin sheet copperstamped with concentric corrugations. Three to six corrugationsare all that are necessary, so that the space within the bolt holesusually determines the width of the gasket. In cases where theflanges are thin, and for this reason liable to bend when the boltsare tightened, it is advisable to extend the copper gasket to the. full width of flange. This will, of course, require the cutting ofbolt holes in the gasket. Connections made with these gaskets will not blow out after con-tinued use, for each corrugation makes the entire circle of theflange, and so long as the contact is kept complete by compressionthe joint cannot leak. It never blows out like rubber. It may berut in place while steam is leaking through the valve. It answerswell on pipes in which steam is alternately on and off, for it is* notimpaired By the repeated expansion and contraction. It is made not only in the circular form shown, but can be ob-tained in elliptical and rectangular shapes, in fact, in any desiredshape or size. It is for sale by the U. S.
