Holland, state: "French bulbs were shipped a little later than the previous year, owing to tlu' well known deadlock. However, we wer(> able to execute orders in the best quality and required quantities, before the middle of July. Roman hyacinths were scarce and prices high, making the article almost useless for the trade. This fact undoubtedly accounts for the enor- mous sale of ))repared hyacinths, of which the variety Ij'Innocence is tak- ing a great deal the place of the white Roman. "Contrary to last year's experience, when at the end of the season a surplus was noticeable, this year ended unex- pectedly with a rlcan-up in almost every lino and, with a few exceptions, firm prices. "Hyacinths hebl their own up to the end, although .a price adequate in view of their high t-nst of cultivation could not be realized, which fact is (lue to the still nnsatisfactoiy eastern trade. "Tulips sold out well at fair prices, except the varieties La Reino and Murillo, of which :i good quality was still on hand late in the season. The best quality of the leading Darwins soon showed an advantage in price, while breeders, offered at more reasonable prices, found a ready market.
