Ghoulish scene of the WWI execution post where British soldiers were executed for various military offences in the grounds of Poperinge Town Hall

Sad ghoulish scene of the WWI execution post where British soldiers were summarily executed by firing squad for various military offences in the grounds of the town hall near the town square in the Belgium town of Poperinge known during the First World War as Pop. The town was a popular place during the First World War being a safe area for field hospitals and R&R for the soldiers, since Pop was one of only two Belgium towns not to be occupied by the German Army
