GSF ARCTIC II, Oil Rig in Cromarty Firth, in the port of Invergordon, Scotland
GSF ARTIC II oil rig, Cromarty Firth, Easter Ross, Scotland, uk. The Cromarty Firth forms an arm of the North Sea in Scotland. From where it joins Moray Firth, the Cromarty Firth extends inland in a westerly and then south-westerly direction for a distance of 19 miles ( kilometres). Excepting at Nigg Bay (on the northern shore) and at Cromarty Bay (on the southern shore) where it is about 5 miles (8 kilometres) wide (due north and south); and at Alness Bay, where it is 2 miles ( kilometres) wide; it has an average width of 1 mile ( kilometre), forming one of the safest and most commodious anchorages in the north of Scotland. The southern side of the Firth is formed by the Black Isle. GSF Arctic II Rig owned by GlobalSantaFe is a Semisub type of drilling rig. It was design by Friede & Goldman L-907 Enhanced Pacesetter and delivered in 1982 built by Gotaverken Arendal at the Sweden shipyard . It is currently holding a Panama flag. The GSF Arctic II Semisub can operate at water depths up to 1,200 ft and drill down to approximately 25,000 ft .
