CaltureâEarly Cabbage Seed should be in hot-beds during February or March. W larg-e enough the plants should be transpla into cold frames, and as early as the ground fit condition they should be p'lanted in the ga in rows about two feet apart and about IS inches in the row. The late varieties should be sown about the first of May, and set out in the garden in June and July. As these grow larger than the early va- rieties, they should be planted in 'rows about three feet apart and about two feet in the row. During the growing season, even in hot-beds various leaf-eating in- sects begin to annoy and destroy the plants to a great degree. This may be controlled by applying a weak mixture of arsenate of lead before the heads have de- veloped about two-thirds of their growth, after which a less-poisonous insecticide should be applied; such as Hellebore, Bug- Death or Slug Shot. A steady look-out kept and prompt application made, will insure a good crop. 1 ox. to plants, 4 oz. of Seed In bedis to transplant upon an acre. FIRST EARLY SORTS. Early Spring or Flat ParisianâAn extra early flat-headed sort. As early as Jersey 'Wakefield, with heads twice the weight of TVakefield. It is very solid and regular in shape, has few outside leaves. CURRIE'S EARLY MARKETTâComparing it with Jersey Wakefield, we find it earlier, besides having a much larger and finer head with few loose outside leaves. In form the head is conical.
