Manual of pathology : including bacteriology, the technic of postmortems, and methods of pathologic research . resemlilanoc has led to an un-fortunate complication of names, such tumors hcin;^ sometimes calledtiuiotliclial carcitionmta, and, aj:[ain, cpillwlionuitu of the serous mem-l>ranes. Usually, a careful examination of a large numlicr of sectionswill disclose areas distinctly sarcomatous. The shape, arrangement, andcharacter of the cells, associated with the ])oor development of theblood-vessels, point conclusively to the diagnosis of sarcoma. Theauthor has recently had an opportunity to examine such a tumor spring-ing from the tonsil or pharyngeal wall. The examination of manysections has led the writer to believe that it is not impossible that someof these tumors mav rei)resent coml)ined or associated processes; thecoincidence of sarcoma and carcinoma in the same individual, or even inthe same organ, occasionally occurs; the author has seen giant-cellsarcoma and scirrhus together in the female mamma. Tumors ofendothelial origin arising from the cells in the lym])h-spaces are called. i- .OO. --.\1aM.\IA, LY»U>;;lMA. Removed by Prof. J. Chalmers Section of tumor is shown in Kite, jot- lymphangio-endotheliomata; developing from the endotheliumof the blood-vessels, hemangio-endotheliomata. Apparently some ofthese neoplasms arise from the endothelium, and to thesehas been given the name perithelioma. With regard to the malignancyof the endothelioma, it mav be that, as a rule, they grow metastasis late, if at all. an«l evince little tendency to recur ifthoroughlv removed. The high mortality from endothelioma is dueto inaccessibilitv of the tissues ordinarily involved. Psammoma (.•^io/z7/nV Sanowa) is a peculiar tumor, contamingsand-like masses and originating in the brain and its membranes, more I may be found in. or tracedMil. Munch, tncd. 34. n. 741. K
