An old portrait of the real Baroness Maria Augusta von Trapp née Kutschera (1905-1987) who was the stepmother and matriarch of the Trapp Family Singers who inspired the popular film SOUND OF MUSIC. She was the author of the book The Story of the Trapp Family Singers Before marrying Captain Georg von Trapp she had been a postulant (training to be a nun) at Benedictine Nonnberg Abbey, Salzburg , entering it in 1924. She returned confused by the Captains marriage proposal and it is said that the mother superior recommended that she should marry. She did so on the 26th November 1927.
