Bank construction. Builders constructing a ceiling. They are building a luxury house on the island of Montserrat. The ongoing eruptions of the Soufriere Hills volcano, which began on 18 July 1995, have rendered two thirds of the island inhabitable. Several thousand people emigrated, but others moved to the northern part of the island, which is protected from the volcano by a range of low hills.
