The origin of his name is unknown,but it is highly improbable that it was aBritish territorial surname, as such were notin use at that date, and, moreover, it was frequently speltDen, or Dyn. An explanation suggested by the learnedantiquary, Mr. G. T. Clarks, history of the Land ofMorgan, is in accordance with the custom of the day in suchmatters, and I venture to offer it in case it should tempt somegenealogist claiming this ancient descent to a systematicinvestigation. It is singular, says Mr. Clark, that of so notable aman as MtzHamon so little should be known. His father, Hamo Dentatus, seems to have received favours from DukeWilliam.
