In 1868 he came to Somerville. From thatdate until 1876 he was manager of the Boston Daily and SundayTimes, when he accepted the management of the SomervilleJournal, and has so continued until the present time. Duringseveral years he was President of the Somerville Water Boardand of the Suburban Press Association, until he declined re-elec-tion. At the present time he is President of a highly prosperousfinancial institution, the Somerville National Bank. The system-atic details introduced into the management of the treasury de-partment by Mr. Hayden have been recommended by theController of County Accounts for adoption by County Treas-urers throughout the Commonwealt
