Microquasar. Radio image of the microquasar GRS1915+105. Radio wave intensity is colour-coded, rising from blue to red. This system is thought to consist of a neutron star or black hole in orbit around a normal large star. It has been known to eject huge jets of high-energy particles with velocities over 90% of the speed of light. This process is analogous to the ejection of jets by quasars at the centres of galaxies. Radio waves are emitted as charged particles move through the system's strong magnetic field. GRS1915+105 lies 40,000 light years away in the constellation Aqui- la.
