A BlueIndy electric car parked at a downtown Indianapolis, Indiana charging station. BlueIndy had launched the first electric car-sharing service in the United States. The program is said to be saving the city and its residents as much as 500,000 gallons of gasoline a year. It also helps reduce car ownership–related costs for residents. BlueIndy subscribers are Indianapolis residents with a current driver’s license and have a credit card. After receiving a membership card, drivers can scan cards at a station and drive away. They are also able to make reservations and obtain parking reservations via website or app access. Cars may be returned at any station such as the one pictured, making one-way trips an easy process. Various pricing packages and options are available. The program was launched in 2016 with a goal to reach a 500-car fleet and to have over 200 stations such as the one pictured.
