Vatsalya's Self Help Group - Jaipur, Rajasthan
Vatsalya creates Self Help Groups of women to extend opportunities to them for finding alternative means of livelihood by training and upgrading the skills of women. Each of these groups have a leader selected democratically and a constitution. They hold monthly meetings; discuss money matters related to funds generated as a result of their savings, attend skill building trainings and produce works of art in jewelry, home furnishing and so on. Vatsalya's primary goal is empowerment of those who need it and who seek it. Vatsalya is an Indian based NGO whose mission is to help restore lost childhoods and improve the quality of life of vulnerable members in the population through direct services, advocacy and the networking of thoughts and actions. One of the organization’s main programs is Udayan, a unique Children’s Village on the outskirts of Jaipur where approximately 60 orphaned, abandoned and destitute children live under the care of Vatsalya’s staff. At present, Vatsalya also has significant interventions in the fields of Health & HIV-AIDS and Women’s Empowerment.
