Beach from where canoe fraudster John Darwin paddled out to sea and faked his own death in 2002 so that his then wife could make a substantial insurance claim. John Darwin has repaid just £121 of a £679,000 proceeds of crime order. The Crown has now applied for him to repay more, as a pension has matured. A hearing to decide the matter will be held on 29th, May at Teesside Crown Court. Both he and his former wife served around half of a six year sentence following conviction in 2008.
