The First Train at Cloncurry On Saturday afternoon last (says the Daily Mail) large numbers of people journeyed towards the railway station to witness the arrival of the first railway train in Cloncurry. At 5 o'clock the train, which was composed of the plate-layers' travelling camp and numbers of trucks of rails and sleepers, steamed to the end of the line, about a quarter of a mile from the platform. Many present, including men and women of mature age, beheld a train for the first time. The different ideas and comments expressed were hardly credible. The rails were laid past the platform today. Owing to wash-aways at various places, caused through heavy rain, the train has been unable to get through with material since Saturday, necessitating the stoppage of further construction until the line is repaired.
